Martin Luther King Jr. was an African-American pastor in a segregated southern U.S. state. He had a clear vision arising out of his values of justice and freedom and driven by an objective far larger than his own self-interest. He pursued his vision unhesitatingly until that dream catapulted him onto the national stage as the central figure in a debate of international significance. He was arrested for his actions, he was beaten for his actions, and he is revered for his actions. The treatment of African Americans in the United States improved because of his actions and the actions of countless other courageous individuals who acted in alignment with their values. Regardless of the seemingly insurmountable hurdles that stood in his way, Martin Luther King Jr. remained true to his vision.
