Conscientious leadership works. When a leader treats his employees as he would expect someone to treat a member of his family, employee loyalty blooms. Children aren’t disposable. Neither are employees.
My children chime in in monotone when I repeat my oft-used admonition, but they also stop practicing tether-ball headers or whatever other activity prompted my request: “I love you and I don’t want you to get hurt. So please stop doing that.”
When we treat our employees as precious, indispensable team members, everyone benefits. While you aren’t going to tell your administrative assistant that you love him, you might ask about his mother or attend a game of his recreational basketball team. Employees who feel heard and respected will bend over backwards to help their organization achieve its objectives.
What one thing can you do today to infuse your relationships with a little more care?
